2 Naxals killed in gunfight in India

NEW DELHI, April 21 (Xinhua) -- Two Naxals were killed on Sunday in a gunfight with policemen in central Indian state of Chattisgarh, police said.

The gunfight broke out inside the forests of Pamed area in Bijapur district, about 440 km south of Raipur, the capital city of Chhattisgarh.

"Today a gunfight broke out between Naxals and joint contingents of district police and Greyhound Force here inside Pamed forests of Kavargatta area," a police official posted in Bijapur said. "Two Naxals were killed in the anti-Naxal operation and two country made weapons have been recovered from the spot."

According to police, the policemen had cordoned off the forest area on specific intelligence input about the presence of Naxals in the area.

Policemen involved in the firefight have not suffered any casualty in the stand-off, officials said.
