Taiwan's jobless rate climbs to 3.72 pct in March

TAIPEI, April 22 (Xinhua) -- Taiwan's seasonally-adjusted jobless rate rose by 0.02 percentage points to 3.72 percent in March compared with the same period last year, the island's statistical agency said Monday.

A total of 438,000 people did not have a job in Taiwan in March, 5,000 more than the previous year.

Young people aged between 20 and 24 years old in Taiwan registered the highest jobless rate, 11.78 percent in March. The statistical agency said young people needed time to adjust to their career, particularly for first-time job-seekers.

It's more difficult for those with bachelor degrees to find a proper job, with a jobless rate of 5.07 percent in March. The jobless rates for senior high school graduates and those with master degrees were 3.54 percent and 2.77 percent, respectively.

For the first three months, the average unemployment rate stood at 3.68 percent, up 0.02 percentage points from a year earlier. Enditem
