Wang Zheng leads Chinese one-two finish in hammer at Asian C'ships

DOHA, April 23 (Xinhua) -- China's dominance in the women's throws at the 2019 Asian Athletics Championships continued, as Wang Zheng led a one-two finish in the hammer event, while local hero Abderrahman Samba scored a convincing victory in men's 400m hurdles on the competition's second day.

31-year-old Wang initially threw 73.47m, beating her own venue record of 72.78m set back in 2013. She improved on it twice more in the following two rounds and bowed out with a winning mark of 75.66m on Monday.

Wang's compatriot Luo Na finished second with 72.23m, while Japan's Akane Watanabe finished some way off in third, throwing 63.54m.

In the men's 400m hurdles, 23-year-old Samba arrived in high spirits after clocking a career-best 44.60s 13 days ago. The Qatari showed good form in front of the jubilant local crowd on Monday and cruised to an easy victory in 47.51 seconds, also setting a new course record.

Chen Chieh of Chinese Taipei finished a distant second in 48.92, followed by India's Jabir Madari Palliyalil in 49.13s.

Elsewhere, Lu Minjia took the women's long jump title for China with a distance of 6.38m. The Chinese team also won silver medals in the women's 100m, women's 800m, men's shot put and men's pole vault, as well as three bronze medals in the women's 100m, men's 100m and men's pole vault.
