GAZA, April 24 (Xinhua) -- The Islamic Hamas Movement on Wednesday called on the United Nations to redouble its efforts to speed up the implementation of the truce with Israel in the Gaza Strip.

"The United Nations should redouble its efforts to speed up the implementation of the understandings of calm and pressure on the Israeli occupation to do so," Abdellatif Al-Ganoua, the spokesman of Hamas told Xinhua.

"The Qatari funds allocated to projects sponsored by the United Nations in Gaza have been monitored, including temporary employment projects targeting about 20,000 unemployed with a total value of 40 million U.S. dollars," he said.

"Some understandings are going according to what has been agreed upon, such as expanding the fishing area, improving electricity, starting the establishment of fuel reservoirs for the Gaza power plant, adding medicines, improving the movement of crossings and running convoys to the sector," he added.

Some understandings need more time and the commitment of donor countries needs to accelerate, the spokesman said.

The UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process Nickolay Mladenov announced on Feb. 28 that he would sign agreements to push ahead with the creation of thousands of temporary jobs for unemployed youth in Gaza as part of the efforts to calm the situation.

Egypt, the United Nations and Qatar have been in talks for several months between the Palestinian factions in Gaza and Israel to promote the truce following the protests of the March 30, 2018 rallies demanding the lifting of the Israeli blockade on the Gaza Strip since mid-2007.
