KIEV, April 24 (Xinhua) -- Ukraine has withdrawn from another two agreements on cooperation within the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), the Ukrainian government press service said in a statement on Wednesday.
Kiev terminates the agreement on mutual preservation of inter-state secrets in the area of legal protection of inventions, saying the deal is "obsolete" and the "legal relations between the participants of the Agreement in this area exist no longer."
Besides, Ukraine quits the agreement on methodological comparison and creation of a common statistical base of the economic union within CIS as it has "lost its practical value in the current developments."
Ukraine has voiced its intention of discontinuing its work with the CIS due to tensions with Russia. It has already ended a series of agreements with the regional organization, including on economic cooperation and on standardization of weapons and military equipment. In May 2018, Kiev terminated its participation in the statutory bodies of the CIS.
Founded in 1991 as a regional organization of former Soviet republics, the CIS comprises Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. Ukraine and Turkmenistan are associate members.
