MINSK, April 24 (Xinhua) -- The Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) on Wednesday welcomed the statement by Ukraine's newly-elected president Volodymyr Zelensky on the continuation of the Minsk process.

Martin Sajdik, the OSCE's special envoy to Trilateral Contact Group (TCG) on Ukraine, told reporters that the continuation of the Minsk process is the most important thing for him.

The diplomat said that the conflicting parties in Ukraine supported the idea of an Easter truce in principle, but unfortunately they could not come up with a unified text of the statement.

He expressed the hope that in practice the parties will refrain from fighting in particular during the upcoming holidays.

Due to the upcoming holidays, the next meeting of the Contact Group on Ukraine will take place in Minsk on May 22.

The TCG is a group of representatives from Ukraine, Russia and the OSCE to facilitate a diplomatic solution to the conflict in eastern Ukraine.
