Tokyo stocks close lower as investors take profits before 10-day holiday

TOKYO, April 26 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks closed lower Friday as investors opted to secure profits ahead of the 10-day string of Golden Week holidays starting this weekend.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average lost 48.85 points, or 0.22 percent, from Thursday to close the day at 22,258.73.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, fell 2.35 points, or 0.15 percent, to finish at 1,617.93.

Nonferrous metal, metal product, and oil and coal product-linked issues comprised those that declined the most by the close of play.
