BEIJING, April 27 (Xinhua) -- China's coastal bulk freight market has seen an overall demand growth in the week ending Friday, according to the Shanghai Shipping Exchange (SSE).

The composite index for coastal bulk freight climbed up 3.5 percent to 1,071.52 week on week, the SSE said.

The sub-index for coal rose by 4.4 percent to 1,109.04 week on week while that for grain surged by 8.7 percent to 847.22.

Metal ore index moved up by 2.5 percent to 1,030.21, and crude oil index remained flat at 1,557.48.

The SSE initiated the index in 2001 under the guidance of the Ministry of Transport to reflect the fluctuation of the Chinese coastal transport market.
