KABUL, April 28 (Xinhua) -- More than 36 people including four civilians have lost their lives in fighting between security forces and the Taliban fighters in conflict-plagued Afghanistan over the past 24 hours, officials said Sunday.

The government forces in a latest crackdown on militants stormed Taliban hideouts in Maroof and Shorabak districts of the southern Kandahar province early on Sunday killing 16 insurgents, provincial police spokesman Jamal Nasir Barekzai said.

According to the official, 13 militants and four police personnel have been injured during the ongoing operations.

The official also said that a roadside bomb organized by the Taliban group struck a tractor in Dand district of the province Sunday afternoon killing at least two civilians.

Fighting between security forces and the Taliban fighters in Qaisar district of northern Faryab province on Sunday killed two civilians, four pro-government militias and five militants, army spokesman in the northern region Ghulam Hazrat Karimi said.

Seven more militants have been killed in eastern Ghazni and two more in western Badghis province over the past 24 hours, officials added.

Meanwhile, Taliban militants who have intensified anti-government activities since launching the group's annual spring offensive on April 12, have rebuffed the claims, saying the armed group has inflicted casualties on security forces over the period.

Since warring sides in Afghanistan often exaggerate the opponents' casualties it is difficult to verify with independent sources.
