HANOI, May 3 (Xinhua) -- The memorial service for Vietnamese former President Le Duc Anh was held here on Friday morning after respect-paying ceremonies took place simultaneously in the capital city of Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and his home province of Thua Thien Hue.

The memorial service and the respect-paying ceremony at the National Funeral Hall in Hanoi was attended by leaders and former leaders of Vietnam's party, state, top legislature and government, including Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, Vietnam News Agency reported on Friday.

Delegations of foreign parties, states and governments, and foreign ambassadors and representatives of international organizations in Vietnam, including a delegation from Cambodia led by Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen, also came to pay last respects to Anh.

The former president, born in 1920, will be buried on Friday afternoon at Ho Chi Minh City Cemetery.

Vietnam has declared two days of national mourning for the former president on Friday and Saturday.

Anh started participating in revolutionary activities in 1937. He was president of Vietnam from 1992 to 1997.
