Vietnam's retail sales, service revenues post highest 4-month growth in 5 years

HANOI, May 3 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam's total goods retail sales and consumer service revenues in the first four months of this year expanded 11.9 percent year-on-year, the highest four-month growth rate in five years, to nearly 1,584 trillion Vietnamese dong (68.9 billion U.S. dollars), according to the country's General Statistics Office on Friday.

Specifically, Vietnam's goods retail sales stood at roughly 1,216 trillion Vietnamese dong (about 52.9 billion U.S. dollars), up 13.2 percent, with sales of food and foodstuffs growing 14 percent, home appliances growing 12.9 percent, garments growing 12.4 percent, and vehicles growing 11.1 percent.

Between January and April, restaurant and accommodation revenues were 187.4 trillion Vietnamese dong (over 8.1 billion U.S. dollars), up 9.2 percent, and tourism revenues stood at 14.9 trillion Vietnamese dong (647.8 million U.S. dollars), up 13.1 percent, the office said.

In 2018, Vietnam's total goods retail sales and consumer service revenues rose 11.7 percent year-on-year to nearly 4,396 trillion Vietnamese dong (191.1 billion U.S. dollars). Specifically, its goods retail sales surged 12.4 percent to over 3,306 trillion Vietnamese dong (143.7 billion U.S. dollars).
