TIRANA, May 3 (Xinhua) -- In 2018, Albania's labor force was around 1.4 million, according to the Labor Force Survey published here on Friday by the Institute of Statistics (INSTAT). Albania has a population of 2.9 million people.
The official unemployment rate for the population aged 15 and above is 12.3 percent.
According to the survey, the labor force is 43.7 percent female and 56.3 percent male. Of the total labor force, over 1.23 million persons are employed (43.9 percent female and 56.1 percent male).
The number of unemployed people is estimated at 173,000. Of them, 42.3 percent are female and 57.7 percent male.
The survey shows that the labor force participation rate for the population aged between 15 and 64 years is 68.3 percent. The employment rate for this age group is 59.5 percent. The employment rate for females is 52.4 percent and for males 66.7 percent. The gender gap in employment for this age group is 14.3 percent.
The agricultural and services sectors have the highest shares of employed persons (37.4 percent and 42.9 percent, respectively, of total employment). Most of the employed Albanians (66 percent) work in the services sector.
According to the survey, 44.5 percent of the workers are employees, 34 percent are self-employed and 21.6 percent are contributing family workers.
