KIEV, May 6 (Xinhua) -- Ukraine's president-elect Volodymyr Zelensky on Monday expressed his condolences to the families and friends of the 41 people, who were killed on Sunday in a passenger plane fire at the Sheremetyevo International Airport in Moscow, the capital of Russia.

"We can not return those dead. We sympathize with their loved ones. We will remember those, who are not with us anymore," Zelensky wrote on Facebook.

According to Russian media, the SSJ-100 passenger plane with 78 people aboard en route to the northwestern Russian city of Murmansk caught fire during an emergency landing in the Sheremetyevo Airport.

The plane reportedly took off from the Sheremetyevo Airport at 18:00 local time (1500 GMT) and made an emergency landing after circling over the Moscow region for about 40 minutes.

Zelensky was elected as the sixth president of Ukraine on April 21. He is expected to take office no later than June 3.
