Foreign volunteers bring convenience to tourist spot in China

BEIJING, May 7 (Xinhua) -- The presence of eight international students, who work as public aid volunteers at a major tourist spot in Hangzhou, capital of east China's Zhejiang Province, has caught the attention of tourists during the recent May Day holiday.

The eight are the first international volunteer team serving at the West Lake, a famous spot listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2011, according to China Daily.

All wearing yellow vests and Bluetooth headsets, and riding electric scooters, these foreign volunteers help with providing touristic information, as well as safeguarding the historic sites.

Selected from more than 50 candidates for the volunteer program, Bela Nitesh Parmar from India, said that by helping other, she can also earn confidence and positive energy.

Millions of domestic travelers paid visit to the West Lake during the recent holiday, making it one of the most popular tourist spots in China, along with the Great Wall and the Forbidden city, according to China Daily.

The foreign volunteers come from different countries, including India, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Ethiopia and Yemen.
