TOKYO, May 13 (Xinhua) -- Four people were found dead on Monday with their bodies retrieved from a car submerged at a port in southwestern Japan's Kagoshima Prefecture, local media reported.

According to local police accounts, the victims included three males and a female.

The female victim and one of the males are thought to be adults, the police said, while the other two males are believed to be children.

The local fisheries cooperative association said the sunken car was discovered by a fisherman at a port in Akune City.

The fisherman, the association said, discovered the submerged car at 5:35 a.m. local time, at the port located on the southwestern coast of Kagoshima Prefecture.

Around the port area are facilities and businesses related to fishing and a number of restaurants, according to local media accounts.

Local reports also stated that the depth of the water in which the submerged car was found at the port is around five meters deep.

Local police and investigative personnel were quoted as saying they are continuing to look into the cause of the four people dying and the timeline surrounding the events that led to their bodies being found in the submerged vehicle, and the potential connections between these events.
