JAKARTA, May 14 (Xinhua) -- Anti-terror squad of Indonesian national police has arrested eight alleged terrorists in Central Java province days before the announcement of presidential polls result, a police officer said Tuesday.

The militants linked with the Islamic State (IS) group have previously plotted to stage suicide strikes on May 22, when the country's electoral commission officially publishes the winner of the presidential election. Some of the plotters have been nabbed, while scores of others are still at large, said provincial police chief Inspector General Rycko Amelzo.

Most of the militants' arrest took place in Magelang district, and some others were captured in the districts of Kudus, Grobogan and Sragen, he said.

Indonesian security authorities have beefed up vigilance on terrorist threat during the polls result day, with 450,000 police personnel and soldiers to be dispatched to secure the event.

Earlier this month, the police had also arrested eight alleged terrorists in an outskirt of Jakarta, Lampung province, and North Sulawesi province.
