WASHINGTON, May 14 (Xinhua) -- Montana Governor Steve Bullock jumped into the 2020 U.S. presidential race on Tuesday.

In a video message making the announcement, Bullock, 53, highlighted his record as a Democratic governor in a state that voted overwhelmingly for President Donald Trump in 2016.

"As a Democratic governor of a state that Trump won by 20 points, I don't have the luxury of just talking to people who agree with me," Bullock said. "I go all across our state's 147,000 square miles and look for common ground to get things done."

Meanwhile, he promised to make campaign finance reform a signature issue.

Bullock is entering a crowded and diverse Democratic field where he will compete with higher-profile rivals such as former Vice President Joe Biden and Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont.

Bullock was elected governor of Montana in 2012 and was re-elected in 2016. He has chaired the National Governors Association since 2018.
