TOKYO, May 15 (Xinhua) -- An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.5 struck off the northeast coast of Amami-Oshima Island in Japan's Okinawa Prefecture, the weather agency here said Wednesday.
According to the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA), the temblor struck at 2:34 local time, at a latitude of 29.7 degrees north and longitude of 130.7 degrees east. The quake occurred at a depth of 30 km, the JMA said.
