MANILA, May 17 (Xinhua) -- A head-on collision between a passenger van and a six-wheeler truck in the country's central province of Leyte on Friday morning killed eight and injured 13 others, local police said.
Police said the accident occurred around 6:15 a.m. local time on a highway in Babatngon town, Leyte province, adding that the dead include members of a family.
The van was traveling to Tacloban City while the truck was heading for Babatngon to deliver swine at the Babatngon public market, police added.
Police said the eight that died at the scene were passengers of a van that rolled over on the side following the collision. The driver of the truck and his assistant were among the injured, police said.
Witnesses said both cars were speeding when the accident took place.
