Lennart Meri Conference opens in Estonia to discuss foreign, security policy issues

TALLINN, May 17 (Xinhua) -- Officials and experts gathered here to discuss foreign, defense and security policy issues from the perspective of the northern and eastern parts of Europe as the 13th Lennart Meri Conference opened on Friday.

Entitled "One Past, Many Futures", the three-day conference is scheduled to focus on issues related to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization and the upcoming European parliament elections, among others, according to the organizer of the conference.

Organized by the International Center for Defense and Security, a Tallinn-based think tank, in cooperation with Lennart Meri European Foundation, the conference is named after late Estonian President Lennart Meri, who served in 1992-2001. The first such conference was held in Tallinn in March 2007.
