OTTAWA, May 18 (Xinhua) -- The Beijing Ottawa Tulip Friendship Garden has been set up in Commissioners Park in Ottawa at the China Day of the 2019 Canadian Tulip Festival event, which kicked off Saturday.
This year marks the 20th anniversary of the establishment of sister city relationship between Beijing and Ottawa.
At a watering and gift exchange ceremony for the friendship garden, Chinese Ambassador to Canada Lu Shaye spoke highly of celebrating the China Day of the 2019 Canadian Tulip Festival and expressed his thanks for Canadians' hard work in promoting the China-Canada friendship.
The establishment of the friendship garden demonstrates the longstanding and comprehensive relationship between Canada and China, said Deputy Mayor of Ottawa Laura Dudas.
Hundreds of people were present at the event. The guests watered the tulips in the garden, which symbolize the blooming friendship between the Chinese and Canadian people.
The Canadian Tulip Festival is one of the most notable festivals in Canada and the largest tulip festival in North America. It is held in May every year.
