Russia sweeps Switzerland to claim six straight victories at hockey worlds

BRATISLAVA, May 19 (Xinhua) -- Russia swept Switzerland 3-0 to claim their sixth straigh win in the Group B matchup at the Ice Hockey World Championship on Sunday.

With both teams having secured spots at the quarterfinals, the game turned into Russia's showcase of their superior speed and skill.

The star-filled Russian roster scored one goal in each period. Artem Anisimov opened the score early in the first on a rebound after Dmitrij Orlov slalomed through the defense, Nikita Kucherov stretched the lead to 2-0 on a powerplay and added his second goal of the night on a breakaway in the last period. Kucherov, the 2019 NHL scoring champion with 128 points for the Tampa Bay Lightning, leads these Worlds with 14 points.

Alexander Georgiyev made 31 saves on his second shutout, making it the fourth for Russia at the tournament. With four shutouts, the Russians have conceded a tournament-low three goals in six games.

Team Russia will conclude their round robin stage against the Swedes while Switzerland will face the Czechs on Tuesday.
