NAIROBI, May 21 (Xinhua) -- Kenya head coach Sebastian Migne has put his team on notice saying they risk being axed unless they prove their worth to him in training ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals, which start in Egypt on June 21.
The Frenchman took charge of the team for the first time on Monday and believes there is still room for late call-up, but he would be keen to focus on the available players to get the best out of them ahead of their trip to France training camp.
"Each player in the squad must prove why he is in the team. I saw their talent, but they have a reason to work hard. I want to see a good response from all the players in camp," said Migne on Tuesday in Nairobi.
The Kenyan team, the Harambee Stars, are scheduled to depart for Paris on May 31, where they will hold a 19-day residential camp before flying out to Cairo on June 19 in time for the continental showpiece.
Migne says he will cut his 30-member squad down to 23 players before they depart for France.
"It will be necessary for me to make a decision and that is why players like Masoud Juma should show me if they are ready to play in Egypt," said the coach.
Kenya has secured two friendly matches in France, against Madagascar on June 7 and Gambia on June 15.
Kenya will play its Group C of the Africa Cup of Nations. The first match will see Harambee Stars face Algeria on June 23, Tanzania will be up next on June 27, before wind it up with a match against Senegal on July 1.
At the same time, Migne is also watching the preparations of the Kenya team for the African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifiers.
The tournament, which is open to local based players plying their trade in their home country, will see Kenya play against Burundi in August.
