URUMQI, May 23 (Xinhua) -- Five people were saved and one died after being stranded in Tianshan Mountains in Kazakh Autonomous Prefecture of Yili, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.
The six hikers, three men and three women, were stranded in deep mountains by snowstorms on Wednesday night. More than 40 rescuers were sent to the mountains, according to the fire fighting and rescue detachment of Yili.
The rescuers found the hikers at 5:30 p.m. Five of the hikers were rescued, but a 58-year-old man died from hypothermia.
An investigation is underway.
