BEIRUT, May 24 (Xinhua) -- Lebanese Armed Forces Commander Joseph Aoun vowed on Friday to do whatever it takes to liberate the country's occupied territories, local media reported.

"We will liberate our occupied territories no matter what challenges we will face to reach our objective," Aoun was quoted as saying by Elnashra, an online independent newspaper.

Aoun's remarks came on the occasion of the Liberation Day which witnessed the Israeli army's withdrawal from southern Lebanon in 2000.

"The army was capable of liberating the biggest parts of our territories and it will resist and fight until Shebaa Farms, Kfarshouba Hills and the northern part of Ghajar village are completely liberated," he said.

Israel invaded and occupied southern Lebanon in 1978 and annexed the Golan Heights, including the Shebaa Farms, in 1981, in a move never recognized by the international community.

Aoun praised the Lebanese army for their courage in protecting the country as well as its dignity and security.
