MINSK, May 24 (Xinhua) -- Belarus will host the 2019 IIHF Ice Hockey U20 World Championship Division I on December 8-14.
The tournament will take place in Chizhovka Arena.
Belarus was granted the right to host the championship at the 2019 IIHF Annual Congress in Bratislava.
Gennady Savilov, Chairman of the Belarus Hockey Federation, said on Friday, "Belarus has very strong opponents in the fight for the only ticket to the top division, so it is necessary to use all the competitive advantages."
Belarus will compete against Austria, Slovenia, Denmark, Latvia and Norway.
The youth World Cup will allow Minsk to test the readiness to the adult championship in 2021, Savilov said.
Belarus will co-host the 2021 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship with Latvia.
