Armenia welcomes Chinese enterprises in national construction

YEREVAN, May 26 (Xinhua) -- Armenian President Armen Sarkissian said Sunday that Chinese enterprises including tech giant Huawei are welcome to participate in Armenia's construction and to work for common development in the high-tech sector.

At a meeting with visiting Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi, Sarkissian said Armenia is willing to step up cooperation with China in traditional areas of logistics, mining and infrastructure construction.

Armenia admires China's development achievements, and the Armenian people firmly support strengthening relations with China, Sarkissian said.

China's Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) is a great idea that will grow into a world-changing project, Sarkissian said, adding that Armenia is ready to actively participate in the initiative as an indispensable partner.

Armenia has confidence in the prospects of Armenia-China relations and bilateral cooperation, Sarkissian added.

Hailing the healthy and stable development of China-Armenia ties, Wang said China will continue to encourage its enterprises to invest in Armenia and promote bilateral cooperation in various sectors to a higher level.

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, during a separate meeting with Wang, also said that he welcomes more Chinese investment so as to boost his country's development in high-tech and infrastructure construction for mutual benefits.

Pashinyan said Armenia resolutely adheres to the one-China policy, supports China's just stance and proposals in the international arena, and will continue to actively participate in the China-proposed BRI as well as exchanges of between different civilizations.

For his part, Wang said China and Armenia should strengthen practical cooperation in industrial capacity, high-tech and infrastructure construction within the BRI framework.

Both sides should also enhance cooperation in security, counter-terrorism and the fight against extremism so as to promote exchanges between civilizations with concrete actions and strengthen coordination and cooperation in international and regional affairs.
