KUNMING, May 27 (Xinhua) -- Police in southwest China's Yunnan Province detained three suspects and seized more than 43 tonnes of illegally transported flue-cured tobacco recently, local authorities said Monday.

Police in Changning County in the city of Baoshan received tip-offs on May 21 and 22 that the tobacco would be exported illegally from Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture for sale.

Investigation teams were then dispatched and police intercepted three trucks in Longyang District and Longling County in Baoshan, and in the border city of Ruili City in Dehong Dai and Jingpo Autonomous Prefecture on May 22 and May 23 and seized more than 43 tonnes of tobacco.

Three suspects were arrested and further investigation is underway.

Private trading and transportation of tobacco is prohibited in China.
