JUBA, May 27 (Xinhua) -- South Sudan is seeking to recruit an overseas coach to lead the country's national football team, replacing caretaker coach Ramzi Sebit, a senior member of the country's football governing body said Monday.

Joseph Abdalla, head of tournaments at the South Sudan Football Association (SSFA), said the east African country was searching for its fifth foreign coach.

"We don't have a permanent coach now, but our plan is to bring an international coach to South Sudan. But we are continuing with our current national coaches," Abdalla said.

The head coach position has been vacant since September 2018, following the resignation of Algeria's Ahcene Ait-Abdelmalek just seven months after his appointment.

South Sudan have previously been coached by South Korea's Lee Sung-Jea, Serbian Zoran Dordevic and Uganda's Leo Adraa.

The Bright Stars have failed to make it past the group stage of major international tournaments since becoming a FIFA member in 2012.

The world's youngest nation failed to qualify for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Egypt, losing all their games in qualifying Group C.
