BEIJING, June 1 (Xinhua) -- The following are highlights of China's key news on archaeology from the past week:

-- Well-preserved Neolithic settlement site

The site was discovered at Ximengzhuang Village in the city of Tengzhou in east China's Shandong Province. An excavation of the site has been launched.

Archaeologists said the settlement was part of the Longshan Culture, a late Neolithic civilization in the middle and lower reaches of the Yellow River.

-- Northern Song Dynasty family tombs, relics

A large ancient family tomb group and 51 relics dating back to the Northern Song Dynasty (960-1127) was unearthed in Hefei, capital of east China's Anhui Province.

-- 2,000 year-old graveyard from the Bronze Age

Excavation of the tombs in Qiaojia County, Zhaotong City of southwestern China's Yunnan Province began in March. The graveyard, covering approximately 6,000 square meters, is located beneath a huge hydropower station in the Jinsha River basin.

More than 300 items, including pottery, stoneware and ancient shell coins were discovered in about 550 tombs. Enditem
