Representative office of China Overseas Scholars Conference established in Japan

TOKYO, June 3 (Xinhua) -- The promotion event of the 20th Conference of the Overseas Chinese Scholars, known as "CHINAOCS Preparatory Week," was held in Tokyo on Monday along with the establishment of Tokyo representative office, the sixth of its kind set up overseas.

Zeng Bo, member of the standing committee of the Dalian municipal committee of the Communist Party of China, said at the meeting that the establishment of Tokyo representative office will offer help to Chinese overseas students in Japan in terms of integrating themselves into the development of China.

The office will also provide a full range of support to Chinese students who studied abroad and returned to China to start entrepreneurship, Zeng said.

The CHINAOCS Preparatory Week was first held in 2000 in Dalian, northeast China's Liaoning Province. The 20th version of the event is jointly sponsored by China's Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the provincial government of Liaoning and other organizations.

Xia Mingjiu, minister counselor of the Chinese embassy in Japan, said in his speech that the city of Dalian has played an important role as a bridge and bond in promoting innovation and entrepreneurship of Chinese students overseas by building the important platform of the CHINAOCS Preparatory Week.

He said that the preparatory week plays an important role in promoting overseas students' return to China to start their own businesses.

He hopes Chinese overseas students will integrate their ambition of making China strong and serving their country.

Cao Jing, director of Dalian high-tech entrepreneurship service center, gave a detailed introduction of the preparatory week and the environment of entrepreneurship and innovation of the Dalian high-tech zone.

Over the years, the event has attracted more than 35,000 Chinese overseas students from 63 countries and regions and over than 7,000 overseas students have returned to China to start their own business through the event.
