TRIPOLI, June 4 (Xinhua) -- A total of 37 illegal immigrants were arrested near Libya's western city of Zuwara on Tuesday, the city's security department said.

The immigrants, including two women and a baby, were arrested in Abu Kammash, a town 35 km west of Zuwara, as they were preparing to cross the sea toward Europe, according to a department statement.

The immigrants were all in good health condition and had been provided with medical assistance, the statement said.

Legal procedures have been taken against them, it added.

Libya is a preferred point of departure for immigrants wanting to cross the Mediterranean toward European shores because of the insecurity and chaos after the 2011 uprising that toppled former leader Muammar Gaddafi's regime.
