LISBON, June 6 (Xinhua) -- About 152 investments were made by venture capital in Portuguese startups, with a total funding of 485 million euros in 2018, according to figures released here on Thursday.

According to a report on the investment market in Portugal -- presented at the Lisbon Investment Summit by Pedro Falcao, the managing partner of LC Ventures, the investments in early stage (seed) accounted for 83 percent of the business.

Falcao explained that the numbers of 2018 were greatly inflated by investments in the two latest Portuguese unicorns: Outsystems, which raised 360 million euros last year, and Talkdesk, which got 100 million euros.

"I believe that in the next years Portugal will have more unicorns," he said.

So far in 2019, funding is already going at 54 million euros, and 74 investments are already counted, he added, stressing that early stage companies continue to receive the vast majority of financing.
