RENNES, France, June 7 (Xinhua) -- The head coach of Chinese women's national football team Jia Xiuquan said here on Friday that he was expecting the current squad to make history in their first encounter against Germany at the World Cup.

Jia was titled as the head coach one year ago, leading the team through the Asian Games and some training camps. As he observed, everyone in the team is progressing.

"We've been training to prepare the World Cup for a long time. I believe we are ready, though we have stronger opponents. Germany has a higher rankings than us, but we're hoping to do something different and make some changes, or even make some new records," said Jia at the press conference.

China did not win any game against Germany in the last 10 encounters. "We know the history which shows that we don't have advantage," said Jia, "but we keep trying to learn more and become better. We don't know how the game will go tomorrow but I hope our team will play our best to get a good result."

Jia told the press that the Chinese women's team used to be very strong in 1990s and he hoped the current team will reach those heights again.

"The team will rise again by the efforts of generations and generations of players and coaches. We have to be patient and lay good foundation for the future. The Chinese government and fans have expectations on us and we'll try our best," said Jia.

The captain Wu Haiyan, key player of the national squads of 2015 World Cup and 2016 Rio Olympics told Xinhua she has become more confident and stable and was looking forward to meeting the challenge and coming difficulties.

"This is my first time at the stadium of Roazhon Park," Wu said, "I feel great and I believe we'll be very excited tomorrow. I'm sure it'll be a great match and we're definitely going to enjoy the game."

"I watched some of the warm-up games of Germany. They're progressing and so are we. I'm very much looking forward to the game tomorrow and can't wait to see what will happen."
