TOKYO, June 11 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks closed higher Tuesday as initial profit-taking after the market's recent gains gave way to bargain-hunting encouraged by the yen's retreat against the U.S. dollar.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 69.86 points, or 0.33 percent, from Monday to close the day at 21,204.28.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 8.38 points, or 0.54 percent, to finish at 1,561.32.
Mining, securities house and bank-oriented issues comprised those that gained the most by the close of play.
