Chinese shares close higher Tuesday

BEIJING, June 11 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed higher on Tuesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 2.58 percent, at 2,925.72 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 3.74 percent higher at 9,037.67 points.

The combined turnover of stocks in the two indices stood at 565.5 billion yuan (about 82.1 billion U.S. dollars), expanding from 366.7 billion yuan the previous trading day.

Most stocks rose, with gainers outnumbering losers by 1,432 to 17 on the Shanghai bourse, and 2,106 to 27 in Shenzhen.

Over 100 stocks rose by the daily 10-percent limit on the two bourses with companies in rare earth, securities brokers, cement and liquor sectors among the biggest gainers.

The share price of Wuliangye Yibin Company, a leading liquor producer, rose 8.47 percent to 108.95 yuan, while Xinjiang Tianshan Cement Co., Ltd rose by the daily limit of 10 percent to 10.98 yuan per share.

The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, gained 3.91 percent to close at 1,487.35 points.
