KATHMANDU, June 11 (Xinhua) -- Thirteen months after being arrested in Nepal on the charge of paedophilia, Canadian humanitarian worker Peter Dalglish was found guilty by a local court of the country, officials said here.

Nepal's Kavrepalanchok District Court said on Monday that Dalglish was found guilty of sexually abusing two boys in the country.

"The Canadian national was found guilty of paedophilia and remanded into custody until his sentence is fixed," Sharmila KC, the court official, told Xinhua by phone on Tuesday evening.

During the hearing at the court, the prosecutors had presented statements by the victims, their medical reports, and photos. The prosecutors have sought maximum 13 years jail term against Dalglish and compensation for the victims.

The court has set the next hearing on July 8 over the case, the court official further said.

In April last year, the Central Investigation Bureau of Nepal Police had detained Canadian national Dalglish on the charge of his involvement in paedophilia from Kavre District, some 50 km north from Kathmandu.

According to police authorities, the 61-year-old Peter had been tempting kids by offering foreign trips and better education before sexually abusing them.

The police had rescued two kids of 12 and 14 years sexually abused by Dalglish.

Before being arrested, Dalglish was found running an NGO called Himalayan Community Foundation in Nepal since 2015 in the name of working for poor and deprived communities.

Before coming to Nepal, Dalgish had worked for different agencies of United Nations in different capacities.
