Two kidnapped Canadian women rescued in Ghana

ACCRA, June 12 (Xinhua) -- Two Canadian women kidnapped in Ghana on June 4 have been rescued, a statement from the government said here on Wednesday.

"National security operatives completed an operation in the early hours of Wednesday which successfully rescued the two Canadian women abducted in the Ashanti Region, " the statement signed by Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah, Minister for information announced.

The statement added that some of the suspects in the kidnapping case were also apprehended by the security officials.

Details of the operation, the minister promised, will be made public in due course, as well as measures to prevent such occurrences in the future.

The Canadian authorities flew in a team of crime experts over the weekend to assist their Ghanaian counterparts in their search and rescue mission.
