U.S. dollar little changed ahead of Fed meeting

NEW YORK, June 13 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar was little changed on Thursday as investors were reluctant to take large positions ahead of the central bank's meeting next week.

The United States has reported a batch of weaker-than-expected economic data, which increased the chances for the Federal Reserve to cut interest rates in the future.

The market is widely expecting the the Fed to cut interest rate for twice this year but investors still wanted to wait for more solid evidence of Fed's next monetary move.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, rose 0.01 percent at 97.0096 in late trading.

In late New York trading, the euro fell to 1.1279 dollars from 1.1286 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound decreased to 1.2682 dollars from 1.2687 U.S. dollars in the previous session. The Australian dollar was down to 0.6916 dollar from 0.6926 dollar.

The U.S. dollar bought 108.32 Japanese yen, lower than 108.50 Japanese yen of the previous session. The U.S. dollar was down to 0.9933 Swiss franc from 0.9956 Swiss franc, and it decreased to 1.3325 Canadian dollars from 1.3332 Canadian dollars. Enditem
