BEIJING, June 14 (Xinhua) -- Portuguese diplomats expressed hope that their country's wines will perform better in the Chinese market and help bring Chinese consumers closer to Portuguese culture.

The Invest & Wine Portuguese Wine Master Class, an event jointly organized by the Portugal Global - Trade & Investment Agency and the Embassy of Portugal in Beijing, Thursday invited representatives of Chinese enterprises to learn about wine culture and taste Portuguese wines.

Joao Falardo, the economic and trade counselor of the Embassy of Portugal in Beijing, said in an interview with Xinhua that the wine market in China is growing as Chinese consumers are becoming increasingly sophisticated and are seeking products with higher quality.

"Portuguese wines have an opportunity here with high-quality products and very competitive prices," he said.

Zhao Na, a representative of wine importer ASC Fine Wines, said Chinese vintners are showing a strong interest in Portuguese wines, which boast rich varieties and unique flavors.

Joao Falardo also expressed an expectation that their country's wines will bring a closer look of Portugal to the Chinese consumers.

Jose Augusto Duarte, Portuguese ambassador to China, said Portugal is a great producer of wine and the promotion of wine culture will boost cultural exchanges between Portugal and China.
