Le Havre, June 16 (Xinhua) -- China will look to play their own game to beat Spain in their last group game of the Women's World Cup to reach the knockout stage, Chinese team head coach Jia Xiuquan said on Sunday.
China will play against Spain on Monday in a match which they cannot afford to lose.
Jia, 56, said his side followed Spain closely and had confidence to face them.
"We watched the match Spain played against Germany as well as others they have played recently," he said.
"We can see that Spain have a lot of flair, their form picked up in the second group match, they played faster than before with more direct balls," he said.
"Actually all that is what my team needs to be wary of. They are not only good at controlling the possession, they can also play fast. We must pay close attention to that," he said.
"We have to stick to our own way, we can win the match despite the fact that Spain is a stronger side than China on paper," he said.
If China beat Spain, they may face the United States in the final 16 -- a prospect Jia said he did not consider too much.
"We focus on the match at hand, I think it is of no help to over think about the possible matchup in the knockout stage," he said.
"It is most important for us to win the match playing our own way. We shouldn't look beyond this match, we are focusing on our team's preparation for that," he said.
China do not fear Spain who registered a higher percentage of ball possession in their 1-0 loss against Germany, according to Chinese veteran midfielder Zhang Rui.
"I think Spain seemed to play different game at their previous two group games, they played more direct in the match against Germany. They enjoyed advantage in possession," said the 30-year-old player.
"But it does not necessarily mean you will win if you have more possession, this is why football is so fascinating," she said.
