THE HAGUE, June 16 (Xinhua) -- Kiki Bertens failed to win the WTA tennis tournament in Rosmalen, the Netherlands, on Sunday, losing 6-0, 6-7(3), 5-7 to Alison Riske of the United States in the final.
Two weeks before the start of Wimbledon, Bertens, number four in the WTA World Ranking, could have boosted her confidence with a win on Dutch grass and she was on her way to victory. However, leading 6-0 and 1-0 in the second set, Bertens suffered a leg injury after an unfortunate fall.
Bertens returned to the court after treatment to take a 4-1 lead in the second set. The victory was up for grab, but Riske made a strong comeback, survived five match points and won the third set 7-5 after a rain pause of 25 minutes. The 28-year-old American captured her second WTA tournament title.
Frenchman Adrian Mannarino won the men's ATP tournament in Rosmalen. He beat Australian Jordan Thompson 7-6(7), 6-3 in the final on Sunday. It was the first win for the World's number 44 in his seventh ATP Tour final.
