WINDHOEK, June 17 (Xinhua) -- The education system in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region was found not to inculcate a culture of innovation, entrepreneurship and leadership from a young age.
These are some of the findings contained in the Regional Youth Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Leadership Assessment Study which was carried out by the SADC secretariat youth desk.
According to the study, a significant number of young people do not have sufficient information with regard to becoming entrepreneurs.
"This lack of knowledge and information has made them remain unengaged in entrepreneurial activities and in an unemployment state," the report stated.
The report also stated that although there are a number of national strategies and policies that refer to young people, the young people are not involved in the design, implementation or monitoring progress of these strategies.
The report was presented at the joint meeting of ministers responsible for education and training and science technology and innovation currently taking place in Windhoek.
