UNITED NATIONS, June 17 (Xinhua) -- UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has strongly condemned Sunday's triple suicide attacks in Nigeria's northeastern state of Borno, said his spokesman on Monday.

Guterres expressed his sincere condolences to the families of the victims and to the government and people of Nigeria. He wished a speedy recovery to the injured, said Stephane Dujarric, the spokesman, in a statement.

The secretary-general expressed the hope that those responsible for the attacks will be swiftly brought to justice.

Guterres reiterated the solidarity of the United Nations with the government of Nigeria in its fight against terrorism and violent extremism. He also renewed the world body's support for regional counter-terrorism efforts, said the statement.

At least 30 people were killed and 42 others wounded in Sunday's suicide attacks by suspected Boko Haram terrorists after three suicide bombers detonated improvised explosive devices among a group of football fans at a public viewing center.
