CANBERRA, June 18 (Xinhua) -- Australia's peak scientific body Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) on Tuesday announced they have modeled two versions of the nation in 2060.

The CSIRO on Tuesday published the Australian National Outlook (ANO), comparing a version of Australia where economic, social and environmental challenges have been tackled to one where they have not.

It warned that Australia will enter a "slow decline" if the challenges are not dealt with while the positive future was named the "outlook vision."

If the outlook vision is achieved, the CSIRO found that average real wages could be 90 percent higher in 2060 than currently, greenhouse gas emissions could be reduced to "net zero" and living standards could be 33 to 36 percent higher.

In the alternative scenario, Australia's efforts to reduce emissions stagnate after 2030.

"We hope the ANO 2019 serves as a clarion call for Australia," James Deverell, the director of CSIRO Futures, said in a media release.

"We believe the positive outcomes in this report are all achievable, but they will require bold, concerted action and long-term thinking.

"Emerging technologies will play a key role and Australian companies need to be aware of both the opportunities and challenges they will create."

The report identified five key areas where shifts are required to achieve the outlook vision -- industry productivity, energy, land, culture and urban density.

Experts from more than 20 organizations contributed data and modeling to the ANO, which CSIRO Chief Executive Larry Marshall said offered "a path to prosperity that gives all Australians a better quality of life."

"To put Australia on the path to the most prosperous future though requires a new way of thinking and a new type of leadership which cuts across all walks of life in our great country," he said.
