SOFIA, June 18 (Xinhua) -- Britain's exit from the European Union (EU) would create new business opportunities but its unpredictability worries everyone, Omourtag Petkov, chairman of the British Bulgarian Business Association (BBBA), said here on Tuesday.
"Brexit will happen, and when Brexit happens, there will be new opportunities," Petkov said at the opening of a conference aimed at Bulgarian companies looking to grow on international markets.
There would be new opportunities for trade development, for changed business models, for changed trade routes -- not only for British businesses but also for European businesses that have ties to British companies, Petkov said.
Britain would ultimately seek privileged commercial relationships with other parts of the world, he said.
"It will open new opportunities for Bulgarian companies that have British partners," Petkov said.
"The idea is that through the UK, through relationships with British businesses, Bulgarian businesses can go on a much larger stage, beyond the EU and beyond the British market," Petkov said.
The problem is that Brexit without a deal is becoming a very real possibility, he said.
A no-deal Brexit would lead to unpredictability, he said. "No one can really say what will happen in a certain industry, in a particular business sector, as a result of a Brexit without a deal," Petkov said.
This unpredictability, the impossibility to measure the reasonable risk, worries everyone, he said.
The one-day conference entitled "Go Global!" was organized by the BBBA and attended by representatives of over 100 Bulgarian companies.
