Namibia to host regional migration summit

WINDHOEK, June 18 (Xinhua) -- Namibia as the current chair of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) in partnership with the United Nations Migration Agency will host the Migration Dialogue for Southern Africa (MIDSA).

A statement released by the Namibian government on Tuesday said the 2019 meeting will have two segments.

The three-day experts' meeting from June 25 will be attended by senior officials from SADC member states' Ministries of Home Affairs, Labour, Foreign Affairs, Health, Social Development and National Statistics Offices.

While the ministerial session on June 28 will be attended by participants of the experts' meeting, SADC member states' Ministers of Home Affairs, Labour and Foreign Affairs, and delegates from the African Union Commission, UN agencies, and civil society organizations, among others.

"The main object of this MIDSA meetings will be to identify key migration governance priorities in the SADC region based on the 2030 Development Agenda, the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration as well as other existing regional frameworks," the statement said.
