TOKYO, June 19 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks surged Wednesday, with the benchmark Nikkei stock index closing at more than a five-week high on the back of Wall Street's overnight rally, with investor sentiment lifted as concerns eased about global trade issues.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average climbed 361.16 points, or 1.72 percent, from Tuesday to close the day at 21,333.87, marking the highest closing level since May 10.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 26.60 points, or 1.74 percent, to finish at 1,555.27.
All industry categories on the main section ended in positive territory, with mining, securities house and nonferrous metal-linked issues comprising those that advanced the most by the close of play.
