BEIJING, June 21 (Xinhua) -- China announced Friday its 360-member delegation for the 2019 FISU Summer Universiade slated for July in Naples, Italy.

The Summer Universiade, a biennial sports gala hosted by the International University Sports Federation (FISU), was initiated six decades ago in Torino. Naples is to host its 30th edition.

China is sending 198 student athletes, with an average age of 22, to compete in 144 events in 14 sports.

"China and Italy had been connected by the ancient Silk Road. The year 2020 will mark the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties between China and Italy. I hope our athletes will make friends with all the young athletes," said Xue Yanqing, secretary general of the Federation of University Sports of China (FUSC).

Chinese city of Chengdu will host the 2021 Summer Universiade.
