Egyptian president says to enhance ties with Serbia

CAIRO, June 24 (Xinhua) -- Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi expressed on Monday his country's keenness to boost mechanisms of cooperation with Serbia.

Sisi's remarks came during a meeting with visiting President of the Serbian National Assembly Maya Goykovich in Cairo.

President Sisi hailed the historical relations between Egypt and Serbia that mark their 111th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations, Egyptian presidential spokesman Bassam Rady said in a statement.

The meeting covered the latest regional and international developments of mutual concern, along with ways of maintaining stability and security in the region.

Sisi highlighted the importance of the parliamentary and social aspects in enriching the bilateral relations, as well as the role of the Serbian Egyptian Friendship Association in boosting parliamentary cooperation, the spokesman said.

Meanwhile, Goykovich voiced her country's appreciation of the historical relations with Egypt.

She hailed Egypt's pivotal role in maintaining peace and stability in the Middle East, Africa and the Mediterranean region.

Goykovich affirmed her country's eagerness to develop relations with Egypt in all fields, especially in the parliamentary domain and activating the mechanisms of joint cooperation.
